STUDENT SERVICES 1 Student Identification Card
I.
Every student is
entitled to apply for one student identification card by submitting a personal
photograph to the Student Services.
II.
The student
identification card will be issued within one week of the application. The
card is valid for one semester.
III.
To renew, a student
has to return the existing card to the Student Services at the beginning of
the next semester.
IV.
The first student
identification card is issued free-of-charge and a fee of RM10.00 will be
levied on the replacement card. 2. Change
in Personal Information Students are required to inform the Institute on
any changes of their personal particulars, such as parents’ or guardians’
information, permanent and mailing address, phone number, etc., to ease the
Institute for mailing purposes. A “Notice of Change form” is available at the
Student Services for this purpose. 3. Student
Accommodation The student hostel, consisting of town houses, is
located in a quiet residential area which is 20 minutes walking distance to
the Institute. The hostel, which has been newly- built, is spacious, clean
and within easy access to the Institute. There are three rooms upstairs, which include one
master bedroom with a bathroom attached and two twin-sharing rooms with a
common bathroom. Downstairs there is a single bedroom, a living hall, a
dining room, a kitchen and front and back balconies. For each student the Institute provides: §
A single bed with

there is no ceiling fan §
A window curtain Priority for accommodation in the
hostel is given to the first year students. There is a cafeteria, a mini market, a swimming
pool and a small gym centre in this housing area. There is a clinic and a
restaurant in the office building near the hostel. The public bus from the
city centre comes into the township area twice a day, i.e. in the mornings
and in the evenings. The post office is reachable by a driving distance of
about 5 minutes from the Institute. There is also a 7-11 shop just next to
the post office. Students can enjoy jogging, cycling and strolling
in the park, which is located just in front of the Institute. Monthly rental for the student hostel: §

Single
room RM200 4. Resource Center The Resource Center offers a wide range of
reference books and a significant number of textbooks including accounting,
marketing, management, finance, information technology, optics, vision
sciences, etc. A substantial collection of periodicals, journals, reports and
magazines are also available.
I.
On presenting the
student identification card to the personnel, a student will be allowed to
enter the Resource Center.
II.
Every student is entitled
to borrow a maximum of three books at any one time.
III.
The borrowing
period is two weeks for each book.
IV.
The Resource Center
is open from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays and 9.30 a.m. to
1.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
V.
No food or drink is
allowed in the Resource Center.
VI.
Every student is
advised to abide by the rules and regulations set by the Institute. 5. Computer
Lab
I.
Students who wish
to use the computer lab must show their student identification card to the
personnel, and record their name, the time, and the assigned number of the
computer they would like to use in the record book before they are allowed to
enter the computer lab.
II.
No food or drink is
allowed in the lab.
III.
The computer lab is
open daily from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays and 10.00
a.m. to 1 .00 p.m. on Saturdays. 6 Use
of facilities, instruments or laboratory at the Institute
I.
All students are
expected to take good care of the Institute’s facilities and properties.
II.
Besides the scheduled
classes, all students are welcome to borrow the Institute’s instruments and
use the laboratory for practicing purposes.
III.
Students are
required to record their particulars when they borrow the instruments and use
the lab. The instruments are to be returned to the Institute on the same day. 7. Counselling
and Job placement
I.
These services are
available to students who wish to discuss, in the strictest confidence, any
issues concerning their work relationships, personal development,
difficulties with communicating, relationships problems, family and personal
problems and feelings of loneliness, depression, and culture shock.
II.
Counselling
services are offered to help the students to understand their problems better
and to help the students to cope with their studies and fully enjoy their
studies and life in the Institute.
III.
Information on
careers, employment opportunities, practical training and part-time jobs on
campus are disseminated on the Institute’s notice boards. |
